Craft and detail, creativity and emotion - keywords that describe the young and passionate sculptor Thomas Delazer from Val Gardena. The artist creates unique works of art in wood, bronze and concrete.
On the one hand, Thomas Delazer focuses in his works on the elaboration of details, on the other hand on the expressiveness of emotion and social criticism. He is seeking to create an interplay between craft and detail and the communication between the human being and nature.
The main focus in the artist’s work lies on the detail. Delazer's precise and accurate way of working gives the wood the desired texture, such as that of skin, bone, scale, plastic or textile (just to mention a few examples). For instance, Delazer creates the impression of letting the soft skin of a young boy rest gently on bones. The skin appears almost elastic, perfectly adapting to the human anatomy and following its movement, like a living organ.
In addition to the fine work, the effect of the work on the viewers plays an essential role. Delazer's works question in a critical way current issues such as climate crisis, social health or the inner psyche of humankind. The sculptor leaves the autonomy to the sculptures, lets them speak and thus stimulates the viewers to think: what does the sculpture convey? What is happening to the sculptures? What have they experienced? What depresses them or what delights them? Who or what are they looking at and how do we as viewers react to it? The sculptor thus provokes not only emotion, but above all communication between the viewer and the sculpture, nature and environment, consciousness and spirit.
